My name is Jon Rohde. My yard is located 25 miles north of Baltimore in Zone 7b in Towson, Maryland. This Pandemic Garden is in its second full year. I like to mix annuals and perennials with trees and tropical plants in containers. Behind my house is a water hole, lotus tub, patio, and vegetable garden.
This is the approach to the backyard. The small tree on the right is a shadow blow service berry (Amelanchia canadensis, zones 4-8).
plants in containers Cotinus cogyglia ‘Royal purple’ (zones 5-8) wintering at this location. The tree on the right is black gum (Nyssa Silvatika Cover the deck with “Wild Fire”, zones 3-9).
This is the staircase leading down to the garden below. Iris-like plants Veramacanda chinensis ‘freckled face’ (zones 5-10) and various hosta on the right.
This photo of the stairs was taken looking up from the bottom. This is a great place to show off small hostas, groundcovers, perennials and bulbs. This area gets a lot of light and is well drained. A lantern in the distance lights up. “amazing” lavender (lavender ‘Phenomenal’, zones 5-9) is planted in a dish planter on a pillar above the pond.
The pond consists of liners, lights and fountains.
I just saw the patio from the upper deck. The small tree on the right is a sapling Acer palmatum, a perennial and tropical plant planted in a container. The container tree is Carolina Silver Bell (Halesia caroliniana, zones 4-8). There is a curved retaining wall with “Tardiva” written on the right. hydrangea (hydrangea paniculata) “Tardiva”, zones 3-8) is the low side. One of his nine lotus in containers is on this patio.
This is a view of a fenced garden with three compost bins and a partial view of homeless plants. We grow blueberries, tomatoes and asparagus.
The upper deck has hibiscus, many clivia, tropical plants, wisteria flower (Zones 5-9). Grow anything in a container.
I hope you enjoy your journey through my garden.
